Artist Statement
I began painting seriously in the late 1970’s and eventually got an MFA degree in Painting in 1991 from California State University, Long Beach. Figurative, landscape, architecture and abstract work has been my subject matter and I prefer an expressive and impressionistic approach rather than a photo-real style of painting. If I want to do photo-real, I will do photography ... in painting I like the texture and stroke of the brush and paint. It makes the image more abstract. I use acrylic paint, charcoal, pastel, graphite and colored pencil ... whatever gets the job done.

In 2007 I decided to focus again on painting. Since then I have done large expressionist portraits and totally abstract color paintings using acrylic on canvas. I like experimental painting so you won’t necessarily see a consistent style over 20 years of work. Artists are like sharks ... if they stop moving, they sink to the bottom. It’s the journey that gives us pleasure.
