Artist Statement
Mark Oberlin is a realist painter with subject matters ranging from the urban to the pastoral. He reconstructs his subject matter and composes it so the perspective is pushed and distorted. The landscapes become small, the skies expansive and small objects become monumental. There is a jarring distortion between the foreground and the background. The creation of depth and the exaggeration of color is the primary objective in his paintings. There is detail in every element of the painting to bring a three dimensional world to life.

Mark Oberlin was born in Northern California and was raised in Wisconsin. He attended the University of WI, Oshkosh and upon graduating moved to San Francisco. He currently lives in Los Angeles and has shown in galleries extensively in Northern and Southern California.
